PAKATAN Harapan’s component parties will meet tomorrow to discuss the state seat allocations for Selangor, said Menteri Besar Azmin Ali.
The Selangor PH chairman said the meeting will be conducted on the advice of PH and Bersatu chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who said consensus is needed to ensure victory in the state in the 14th general election.
“I see this as a positive development where we will continue to negotiate the seat allocations until a consensus is reached,” he said after officiating the 4th annual general meeting and first convention of Former Malaysian Security Council officers (Pahlawan) in Shah Alam today.
Azmin did not state the location of the meeting and only said that it will take place in Selangor.
Azmin said the meeting had nothing to do with the central leadership’s announcement of a special committee to finalise seat allocations in Selangor, but it is the state-level seat distribution consultancy committee.
He said all parties agreed to send four representatives for the meeting.
Azmin also denied that PKR had requested for more seats in previous negotiations.
“I do not give any provisions about this because it is all in the process of negotiation. I think all the negotiations need to be done behind closed doors and cannot be disclosed to the media at this time,” he said.
Azmin added the attacks by Selangor Amanah chairman Izham Hashim and Selangor DAP committee member Ronnie Liu, who disputed his leadership on the issue, were to be expected.
“It’s fine. Who has not attacked me? Utusan Malaysia, TV3 ... but I still have to be patient.
“Utusan is just a problem. If there is no meeting there is an issue. It’s Utusan and TV3 that are spinning (the issue),” he said.
Izham was reported to have called Azmin a “joker” to say that the seat negotiations had not yet started. Izham also said the PKR deputy president does not deserve to be menteri besar.
Izham later said his statement was misconstrued by the media.
Last week, Dr Mahathir had said that all the affected parties had met with him to resolve the issue.
“(Reaching) a consensus among the four parties is not easy.
“I always say when there are negotiations among many parties, if a party is not happy, that means we are (being) fair.
“Even we in Bersatu are not happy,” he said. – February 6, 2018.
