THE #TangkapAzamBaki protesters will not be permitted to march on Dataran Merdeka.
Brickfields police chief Amihizam Abdul Shukor told Muda co-founder Tarmizi Anuwar that the crowd will be allowed to walk along until before the district police headquarters in Jalan Travers, Bangsar.
“I hope you understand the situation and adhere to the advice. This rally is causing traffic issues and we do not want to prolong them.
“People know the purpose of this protest. So, you do not have to go all the way there (Masjid Negara). Just cooperate with us.”
Protesters today gathered at Bangsar LRT station, despite cops closing the station.
Police have also shut several roads in the capital city today, to prevent the rally from taking place at its intended location in front of Sogo Kuala Lumpur.
The rally, organised by civil society groups and political organisations, is made illegal after cops obtained a court order banning gatherings at the shopping mall, Dataran Merdeka and Masjid Jamek.
Organisers then changed the venue to the Bangsar LRT station, but police shut the area and roads surrounding it after learning about the development.
Tarmizi said the protesters have not completely agreed to the advice and will renegotiate to make their way to Masjid Negara.
The rally is held to demand the arrest of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Azam Baki, following allegations that he bought millions of shares in 2015 and 2016. – January 22, 2022.
