THE government’s search for missing Orang Asli girl, Kamilia Anap, or Ayeng, has ended, with only villagers continuing to look for the nine-year-old missing since Thursday, an activist said today.
In a Facebook post, Centre for Orang Asli Concerns head Colin Nicholas said government agencies such the police, Orang Asli Development (Jakoa), Fire and Rescue Department, and the Senoi Praaq teams have stopped looking for Ayeng.
“Yet the search continues for the villagers. The rest of the ‘official’ team apparently stopped their efforts yesterday,” Nicholas said.
He added there was justifiable concern for her health and safety as it is now entering the second week of her disappearance.
Ayeng disappeared on Thursday after a trip to gather rattan in the Temenggor Forest Reserve in Perak.
She was formally reported missing the following day.
Ayeng, of the Jahai tribe, became separated from the 11-member team as they were returning to their village.
They were on a hillock overlooking the settlement, when fell behind.
The news of Ayeng’s disappearance has received scant media attention, although Nicholas’ Facebook updates are being shared on social media. – January 20, 2022.
