MALAYSIA yesterday reported 852 new hospital patients with Covid-19.

The hospital utilisation rate stood at 62.4% while coronavirus cases accounted for 27.6% of bed occupancy.

The number of hospital admissions indicates the severity of the virus. The hospital utilisation includes bed usage as well as the number of patients in intensive care units and on ventilators.

There were 299 new Covid hospitalisations in the Klang Valley, which had a hospital utilisation rate of 57.2%.

Selangor reported 247 hospital admissions, Kuala Lumpur (32) and Putrajaya (20).

Other states that reported new hospital patients were Johor (208), Kedah (34), Kelantan (51), Malacca (14), Negri Sembilan (33), Pahang (14), Perak (33), Perlis (4), Penang (15), Sabah (99), Sarawak (40), Terengganu (7).

One patient was hospitalised with Covid in Labuan. 

Yesterday Malaysia saw 2,342 new virus infections.

Selangor reported the highest number of cases at 524, followed by Johor (351) and Kedah (268). 

Other states that reported new cases were, Kelantan (172), Malacca (201), Negri Sembilan (83), Pahang (127), Perak (103), Perlis (8), Penang (84), Sabah (163), Sarawak (9), Terengganu (64), Kuala Lumpur (168), Labuan (3) and Putrajaya (14). 

The Health Ministry has reported 2.8 million infections since the start of the pandemic.  β€“ January 18, 2022.
