TURMOIL in the Perak chapter has pushed an official to quit her posts in Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), a day after Dr Mahathir Mohamad hit out at party saboteurs.
Bersatu Srikandi exco Zulaiha Sidek quit the wing’s executive council and the Srikandi pro tem committee she headed in the Batu Gajah division, effective immediately.
“The decision to resign is mine alone. I don’t want to be part of a group that is splitting up.
“My official resignation today is a signal that I’m tired of the crisis and turmoil within the party,” she told a press conference in Ipoh today.
She added that the Bersatu central and state leadership should seriously look into the internal split, urging them to curb the problem before it spread further.
“The collusion is happening, otherwise I won’t be taking such a step,”
Zulaiha also wants the party vice-president Hamidah Osman to play a role in solving the leadership crisis in Perak.
Bersatu chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad yesterday lashed out at and called for the sacking of members trying to sabotage and destabilise the party.
This came following reports that Bersatu Ipoh Timur division chief sponsor Azrul Suhadi Ahmad Mokhtar had asked for Muhyiddin Yassin’’s resignation over his failure to carry out his duties.
Bernama, meanwhile, reported Perak Bersatu’s denial that the branch members had called for the party president’s resignation.
Zulaiha also claimed that a division chief in Perak had disseminated wrong information about the reason for today’s press conference.
The media were told yesterday that the press conference was held to expose Muhyiddin’s wrongdoings.
“The top leadership should take disciplinary action against such members, whether they are division chiefs or (ordinary) members. If they are genuine about leading the party, they should take action against these people,” she said. – May 23, 2017.
