THAILAND’S Mental Health Department said more than 200,000 people are suffering from stress due to the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

Department Director-General Dr Amporn Benjaponpitak said an online mental health assessment and survey showed that 216,098 people (8.38%) out of the 2.5 million respondents suffer from stress.

She said 254,243 people are prone to depression and 140,939 are at risk of committing suicide.

“The survey showed that 25,552 people are suffering from burnout and need mental healthcare.”

She said coronavirus patients who suffer physical or mental health issues three months after their initial infection also need mental healthcare.
