DAP proven clean and law-abiding, says Guan Eng

THE Registrar of Societies’ (RoS) recognition DAP had complied with all requirements directed by the authority in conducting its party re-election last year is proof the opposition party is clean.

“It shows we are a party that upholds the law. I don’t want to say more until the RoS issues the letter on Monday,” said DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.

“DAP had been imposed onerous conditions not subjected on Barisan Nasional parties.

“Is this the new standard that will be faced by BN parties too?” he said in Penang today.

Lim was commenting on RoS saying DAP’s central executive committee (CEC) re-election on November 12 last year had complied with all requirements as directed by the federal authority.

RoS said the decision was based on the formula obtained from its investigation.

International audit firm Grant Thornton, which was appointed by DAP, had submitted a full report on the CEC re-election through a letter dated November 27 last year.

The re-election was held after RoS received complaints about the CEC election in 2012 and re-election on September 29, 2013. The trouble started from a glitch when the votes were tabulated in the 2012 polls.

The issue, which led to the elected DAP officer bearers becoming unrecognised by RoS, also sparked concerns DAP would de-registered in 2013 when the 13th general election was fast approaching.

It also lead to concerns DAP candidates might not be able to contest using the iconic rocket symbol, until RoS said there would be no such issue.

Now, with the 14th general election coming, Lim said RoS should quickly process the new opposition coalition Pakatan Harapan’s registration.

PH, made up of DAP, Bersatu, PKR and Amanah had submitted its application to register as a coalition last year.

The new coalition is hoping to contest in the coming polls under a single flag and symbol.

“Why is it so difficult to get PH registered? We don’t understand why approval is still not given,” said the PH deputy president.

“We hope RoS can do its job professionally, so PH and BN can enter the election and fight using their respective symbols.

“We want to be able to use our PH symbol of hope against the BN symbol,” he said.

When PH submitted its application last July, RoS told the coalition it had to amend its logo, as it did not carried PH’s full name. – February 3, 2018.
