POLICE are still investigating the death of a Thai woman inmate in Kajang prison in October, which has been classified as murder.
It is believed the woman had been beaten by wardens.
Selangor police chief Arjunaidi Mohamed no arrests had been made as yet.
“The investigation is still ongoing. We are probing the case under section 302 of the penal code for murder.
“No arrests have been made in connection with the case,” he said when contacted by The Malaysian Insight.
The 31-year-old victim had been detained in prison while awaiting trial for immigration charges after she was arrested on September 21.
A source from a group of rights activists said the inmate was taken to the Kajang Hospital emergency unit on October 4.
“The doctor who examined the victim found bleeding in the brain and she was treated for it.
“However, a day later, the victim was pronounced dead,” the source said.
The post-mortem report on October 7 showed that death was caused by trauma to the brain as a result of being hit with a blunt object.
“A police report was made by the doctor treating the victim.
“We were also informed by someone detained in the same prison cell as the deceased that the deceased was beaten by several prison wardens while in custody.
“We want the perpetrators who caused the death to be brought to justice as soon as possible. It is cruel to hit a woman in such a manner,” said the source. – December 27, 2021.
