THE task of collecting water-logged mattresses, furniture and other household items destroyed by last weekend’s floods will be completed by Sunday, Selangor’s waste management company KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) said today.

Its director Ramli Mohd Tahir said collection of solid waste items began on Saturday, the first day the floods began, and will continue daily in all of the state’s flood-affected areas.

These areas include Klang, Shah Alam, Kajang, Subang Jaya, Petaling Jaya, Sepang and Kuala Langat.

He said that KDEBWM had mobilised nearly 2,000 crew members and 832 units of assets or trucks for the bulk cleaning.

Because of the primary focus on flood-affected areas, Ramli said non-affected areas under KDEB’s management may experience delays in their usual waste collection times.

These include Ampang Jaya and Sepang, Ramli said, apologising to residents there.

Ramli added that some roads to landfills are still closed due to the floodwaters, delaying their operations.

“Some of our assets were also damaged and sunk by the floodwaters,” he said.

KDEBWM advised the public to contact the following complaints lines over any issues faced with waste collection:  019-375 9592, 019-375 3980 (WhatsApp only) and 019-2742824.

KDEBWM is the main contractor for waste management in Selangor.

It said it is working with the chairman of the Selangor’s post-flood task force chairman, Ng Sze Han, who is also the state local government committee chairman. – December 21, 2021.
