THE death toll from floods in the Klang Valley and Pahang has risen to 11, while four others are still missing.
Shah Alam police chief Baharudin Mat Taib said of the total deaths, nine are in Selangor and two in Pahang, while one individual has been reported missing in Shah Alam, Selangor, and three in Bentong, Pahang.
Of the deaths in Selangor, six were in Taman Sri Muda, Shah Alam – one of the worst flood-hit areas. Two of them were from the same family and between the ages of 70 and 90. Their bodies were found in Section 25 at 4pm today.
Baharudin said the other bodies found in Sri Muda are still being identified.
Fire and Rescue Department operations director Nor Hisham Mohammad said two deaths were reported in Dengkil, Sepang.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said one death involved a lorry driver, 45, who was found drowned in his vehicle at Desa Coalfield in Sungai Buloh yesterday.
Baharudin said of the nine fatalities in Selangor, one involved a volunteer.
Of the deaths in Pahang, one was a man, identified as Mohd Helmi Nazlan, 34, who was found in Kampung Cempaka, Kuantan, this morning, according to the state Fire and Rescue Department.
The department said on the day of the incident, the victim and a friend were travelling to Kuala Pahang from Kuantan in a Proton Exora when they were stranded by floodwaters.
The victim was swept away, while his friend survived by breaking a car window and escaping.
On the missing persons, Baharudin said one is believed to be a volunteer, who was last seen in Shah Alam.
The three other cases are reported in Bentong, where a trio is believed to have been swept away by river currents, said Pahang Fire and Rescue operations assistant director Ismail Abdul Ghani.
The three persons are a man, woman and child, who were among locals holidaying at chalets that were hit by a landslide. – December 20, 2021.
