THE main focus in the rescue operations in Taman Sri Muda and Section 25 Shah Alam areas is ensuring that residents receive food supplies, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said.

“Many of the residents do not want to move hence the main focus is getting food supplies to them,” he tweeted.

According to him, more will be evacuated with the help of General Operation Forces (GOF) and Fire and Rescue Department assets.

“More than 30 boats are currently helping to evacuate victims now,” Amirudin said in his tweet.

Earlier today, Klang MP Charles Santiago in a Facebook post said the government must deploy troops, boats and rescue teams immediately to evacuate people stranded in Taman Sri Muda to safety.

“We can’t afford to waste any more time for the rescue. The area has no power and this has made rescue and evacuation work more difficult.

Taman Sri Muda residents in Shah Alam are running out of food with some having gone hungry for two days, despite Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s promises that they will be rescued.

A number of people are still waiting to be evacuated as they sent out SOS calls for rescue boats. Pleas for help have been pouring in on Facebook.

Some have posted on behalf of their ill and aged relatives on social media.

Rashmi Balakrishnan said a family of six was trapped with no food and electricity.

Kee Ai Ling said her friend’s family has been trapped at home without food for the past two days.

Kee said her friend’s mother, who needs medical attention due to high blood pressure and diabetes, had no medication with her. – December 20, 2021.
