TWO anti-graft officers have been handed over to the police in connection with a gang robbery involving a businessman last week, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission said.
“MACC confirms that it assisted the police by handing over two officers to assist in the probe,” MACC said in a statement.
“The commission will not compromise or protect any officers involved in crime.”
On Sunday, MACC confirmed that one of its officers was arrested by the police for a gang robbery involving more than RM700,000 in Ampang, Kuala Lumpur.
In the noon incident on Friday, three men reportedly broke into the home of a businessman on the pretext of investigating a money laundering case.
They reportedly introduced themselves as enforcement officers of an anti-corruption agency and searched the house.
The suspects also allegedly told the victim, who is in his 50s, to hand over a bag containing the cash before leaving in a four-wheel-drive vehicle.
The vehicle allegedly belonged to a friend of one of the enforcement officers.
Dang Wangi district police chief Noor Dellhan Yahaya confirmed the arrest of two men, including an MACC officer in his 30s.
Noor Dellhan said the remand of the MACC officer was extended for five days until December 20 while another person was released on police bail.
“Seventeen people have been taken into custody to assist in the investigation,” he said.
“This case is being investigated for gang robbery.” – December 16, 2021.
