PUTRAJAYA has no plans to set a price ceiling for Covid-19 self-test kits, said Deputy Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Rosol Wahid today.

He told the Dewan Rakyat that the federal government “has no plans to impose a price cap for RTK (rapid test kits), as we have a stock of 17 million”.

“We hope that the market will determine the price,” he said, adding that there are concerns suppliers may manipulate the cost and sell the kits at a maximum price to profit.

He was responding to a question from Salim Sharif (Jempol-BN), who asked whether the government has plans to set a price ceiling for self-test kits.

Rosol reminded people who wish to purchase the kits online to ensure the firms have a Companies Commission of Malaysia Biztrust certificate.

Putrajaya had announced a maximum retail price of RM19.90 per kit and wholesale price of RM16 per kit on September 5.
