PERIKATAN Nasional’s (PN) candidate for Malacca chief minister will come from Bersatu, coalition chairman Muhyiddin Yassin said today.

“Since Bersatu has the most number of candidates in the PN coalition, the chief minister post will go to a Bersatu candidate,” he said during a press conference in Bemban, Malacca.

However, Muhyiddin who is also Bersatu president, refused to name which candidate from the party will be picked for the post.

However, he said PN will announce its candidate a day before polling day.

Muhyiddin also said that later tonight, he will be calling all Perikatan’s 28 candidates to pledge to fight against bribery.

“We want a clean government here. I will ensure all my candidates are against corruption,” he said.

Pakatan Harapan has named former Malacca chief minister Adly Zahari as its choice for chief minister should it win the state elections.

Barisan Nasional, meanwhile, has named former chief minister Sulaiman Md Ali as its CM candidate.

Of the 28 seats contested by Perikatan, Bersatu is contesting in 15, PAS is taking eight and Gerakan, five.

Perikatan is involved in fights against its ally at the federal level, Barisan Nasional, as well as opposition pact Pakatan Harapan in all the 28 seats.

Parti Perikatan India Muslim Nasional will stand in one seat and Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra), led by Ibrahim Ali, is contesting five seats.

Twenty-two Independent candidates will participate in the state polls on November 20.  – November 12, 2021.
