THE Covid-19 epidemic continues to take a heavy toll on Sarawak’s sickly elderly with another 12 deaths occurring between October 3 and yesterday, now classified as deaths due to the viral infection.
 
Five were dead on arrival cases, the state disaster committee reported.
 
They were that of a 90-year-old woman in Betong who had hypertension and was brought in dead to the Sarikei hospital on October 3; a 75-year-old man,  also from Betong, who died on October 14; a 90-year-old Limbang woman who died on November 4, a 75-year-old Sibu woman who also died on November 4 and an 85-year-old woman from Kuching.
 
The youngest of the 12 victims was a 48-year-old man from Miri who died last Monday.
 
Their underlying health problems include high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, chronic kidney failure and chronic lung problems.
 
The number of new cases reported today is 480. While the majority of the cases are mild, three are clinical category 3 cases, meaning they have lung infection; five are in category 4 cases (having lung infection and requiring oxygen to breathe); and one is a category 5 case (having lung infection and requiring mechanical assistance to breathe). – November 10, 2021.
