THE family of murdered native rights activist Bill Kayong received a standing ovation at the PKR annual congress today as the party honoured his contributions to Sarawak.
PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the party has created an annual special award named after the former Sarawak PKR official to honour community rights activists.
Kayong’s relatives were brought on stage at the congress this morning in Shah Alam to launch the award.
“This is the fate of a community and Keadilan activist. We are extremely proud of his efforts,” said Dr Wan Azizah during the launch.
Kayong was shot and murdered as he drove to work on June 21 in Miri. He had been on his way to the Miri parliamentary service centre where he worked as a special officer to MP Dr Michael Teoh.
Kayong was known for his work in helping Sarawakian tribes to claim Native Customary Land Rights when he was killed.
