THE Pakatan Harapan (PH) presidential council has decided on the seat allocations for the Malacca elections today.

PKR president and PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim said that DAP will contest eight seats, Amanah nine seats and PKR 11 seats.

“The seat allocation was a long process. We set up a commitee comprising representatives from all three parties to discuss the allocation.

“It was then decided by the commitee and brought to the PH council for approval,” he said at the PKR headquarters today.

Anwar also said former chief minister Adly Zahari will lead the Malacca campaign and discussions with Muda on them contesting under the PH banner are ongoing.

He said the PH committee, comprising of Salahuddin Ayub from Amanah, Anthony Loke from DAP and Saifuddin Nasution from PKR, had also proposed allocation for the six Malacca parliamentary seats in the next general election.

Anwar said that PKR and Amanah will contest in two seats, while DAP will get two seats – an additional seat, Alor Gajah constituency, had previously been won by Bersatu.

“So, this seat (Alor Gajah) will go back to DAP.

“This (consensus on seats) is a very good start for the Malacca elections as we have decided on both state and parliamentary seats.”

On October 5, four assemblymen announced they had withdrawn support for the state government led by Sulaiman Md Ali, which saw the dissolution of the state assembly, paving the way for the polls.

The Election Commission has set November 8 for nomination day, while polls will be held on November 20.

The four assemblymen are Idris Haron (Sg Udang), Nor Azman Hassan (Pantai Kundor), Noor Effandi Ahmad (Telok Mas) and Norhizam Hassan Baktee (Pengkalan Batu). – October 29, 2021.
