11,156 folk get Covid-19 booster shots in Sarawak

SARAWAK has administered Covid-19 booster shots to more than 11,000 individuals, including frontliners and old folk with weak immune systems, said the state Health Department today.

As of Sunday, 11,156 individuals, including fire and rescue personnel, policemen, health and medical workers, and those with comorbidities, received the shot.

Sarawak started administering boosters at selected private clinics and hospitals on October 13, while public and private health and medical workers got their jab at their workplace.

The Sarawak Health Department said all adolescents (aged 12-17) in the state will be fully vaccinated by month-end – almost a week behind schedule. The initial target was October 26.

As of Sunday, 231,803 (79.1%) of the 295,174 adolescents in the state have received at least one Covid-19 vaccine dose, while 121,030 (41.3%) are fully vaccinated, it added.

The campaign to vaccinate youth in the state started on September 8.

Those aged 12-15 and 16-17 with serious health problems were vaccinated first, while those aged 12-15 with no comorbidities were vaccinated from September 24.

The department said as of Sunday, 90.7% of the adult population (aged 18 and above), or 70.1% of the entire population in the state of 2.5 million, are fully vaccinated. – October 19, 2021.
