WITH Pakatan Harapan leaders debating amongst themselves over the choice of interim prime minister, PKR Youth (AMK) has announced that it wants PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to have the seat.

AMK leader Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said to ensure the ultimate goal of making Anwar Ibrahim the prime minister, Wan Azizah fit the perfect role in realising that objective.

“She has proven herself as an opposition leader by playing a role in quickly forming Pakatan Harapan when Pakatan Rakyat was disbanded.

“I don’t think it is a problem to put Wan Azizah as our interim prime minister as she can already be referred to as Malaysia’s first women prime minister,” he said in his speech at the PKR Youth congress today in Shah Alam.

It is understood that PKR previously wanted either Wan Azizah or party deputy president Azmin Ali to be prime minister.

However, Pakatan Harapan component Bersatu suggested its chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad or president Muhyiddin Yassin.

In his speech, Nik Nazmi also criticised PAS for ending its ties with PKR, saying that the former had also benefited politically from their 18-year relationship.

This was seen in the 1999 general election when PAS captured Terengganu on the back of the Reformasi wave that was started by PKR’s de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim.

Nik Nazmi also refuted PAS’ claims that PKR had shunned the Islamic agenda. – May 20, 2017.
