THE Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) and Persatuan Pemuzik Malaysia (PPM) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) which will see musicians performing again at hotels.

“MAH will introduce and promote PPM members to their respective hotels while PPM on its part has instituted a training programme where their members are taught the finer points of being brand ambassadors to promote hotel venues, particularly to tourists from overseas,” the group said in a statement.

PPM president Francis Danker said the MOU will give job security to musicians whose livelihood was severely impacted by the Covid-19 epidemic.

“Our live musicians are enthusiastically looking forward to performing at the hotels,” he said.

MAH CEO Yap Lip Seng said the MOU will create a close working relationship between the two industries.

“This collaboration is a positive development for both parties and further strengthens the tourism and entertainment industries for the impending economic recovery.”

The three movement-control orders implemented by the government since March 2020 saw many live music venues and hotels shut for the better part of two years to curb the spread of Covid-19.

In September, Malaysia allowed live shows to resume for fully vaccinated audiences with physical distancing while tourism activities have resumed as interstate travel restrictions were lifted on Monday after the country achieved 90% vaccination rate among the adult population. – October 14, 2021.
