POLICE will continue to conduct random checks although roadblocks will no longer be enforced to ensure that only fully vaccinated individuals are travelling inter-state, Senior Minister (Defence) Hishammuddin Hussein said today.

“I would like to remind the public that although roadblocks to restrict inter-state travel have ended, the police will continue to monitor (the situation) through standard operating procedure enforcement teams,” he said at a press conference.

“This includes random checks under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342) through mobile roadblocks, spot checks, monitoring at rest and relaxation (R&R) stops and roadblocks at enhanced movement control order areas.”

Hishamuddin added that previous SOP rules are still in effect.

Although the MyTravelPass has been scrapped for those travelling overseas, they will still have to undergo quarantine upon returning to Malaysia, he said.

Progress into the endemic phase will also depend on developments following the current relaxation on restrictions, he added.

Hishammuddin, who was earlier at the Covid-19 quartet ministerial meeting, said three focus points were discussed which will be key to the government’s reopening safely initiative and moving towards endemicity.

One of them is targeted control, for which the health ministry is now in the midst of developing an alert system.

The two other focal points are virus awareness and community empowerment.

Hishammuddin advised the people to self-regulate – by testing, reporting, isolating, informing and seeking – as part of continuous public health measures.

The inter-state travel ban was lifted yesterday as 90% of the adult population have now been vaccinated against Covid-19. – October 12, 2021.
