BANGI lawmaker Ong Kian Ming has tested positive for Covid-19, he said on Twitter.

A self-test and a subsequent PCR test confirmed the positive results, he added.

“I went to Parliament after lunch today. Did my COVID19 self-test at 330pm. Test came back positive. Confirmed by a PCR test an hour later,” he said in a Twitter thread today.

“I don’t have any symptoms. I will be quarantining at home for the next 10 days. Will spend the next hour or so alerting my close contacts.”

The DAP MP said he was unsure where he had gotten the virus and that a self-test conducted last week returned a negative result.

“Not sure who or where I encountered a close contact. Will be spending the next 2 weeks catching up on constituency cases & writing a few press statements.”

Ong said that the protocols that mandate testing in Parliament shows that it can continue working normally even when the virus is endemic.

Parliament will end its first meeting for the year tomorrow.

He went on to say his case is a testament that the vaccines work in reducing the symptoms suffered by virus patients.

“We have to accept the fact this virus is endemic. The testing protocols in Parliament shows that we can continue to work and operate normally.

“The vaccines also means that a large majority of COVID19 cases among the vaccinated will have no or very less symptoms (like mine).

“We should continue to push for vaccination among the vaccine hesitant, the undocumented migrants and teenagers.” – October 11, 2021.
