THREE children were feared drowned while out looking for clams with their families at the Sg Kg Mangkuk estuary in Setiu this evening.

The three children are Nurulhasya Humaira Che Mohd Humaizi, 11, her brother Muhammad Aryyan Faheem, seven and a relative Nur Amni Insyirah Saiful Tarmizi, nine.

Setiu district disaster committee chairman Rosli Latif said before the incident, there were three adults and six children in the water at the location looking for clams.

“The tide rose very fast, and the adults only managed to grab three of the children while the other three disappeared under water.

“Search and rescue operation will continue with the involvement of the Fire and Rescue Department, police, Civil Defence Force, People’s Volunteer Corps and villagers,” he told reporters at the scene today. – Bernama, October 8, 2021.

  • What a tragedy! Those poor children died because of the ignorance of the adults. You check tides before venturing out to look for clams or cockles.
