MALACCA Pakatan Harapan (PH) assemblymen are seeking a meeting with Governor Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam after four state representatives – who are also seeking a similar meet – withdrew support for Chief Minister Sulaiman Md Ali.
Malacca PH president Adly Zahari said Sulaiman will have to resign after losing his majority, unless the governor calls for the dissolution of the state assembly.
“Since we are facing the Covid-19 pandemic, which has affected the health and well-being of the people, our priority is to ensure political stability in the state,” he said at a press conference today.
Adly said the 11 state PH assemblymen and four representatives, who retracted their support, are looking to meet the governor to find a solution to the matter.
“We will send the letter to the governor’s office today.”
The four are Sg Udang assemblyman and former chief minister Idris Haron, Norhizam Hassan Baktee (Pengkalan Batu), Noor Effandi Ahmad (Telok Mas) and Nor Azman Hassan (Pantai Kundor).
Idris and Nor Azman are Umno members, Norhizam is a former DAP member who is now an independent, and Noor Effandi is from Bersatu.
On the chief minister candidate, Adly said “that is (in) the power of the governor”.
In the 14th general election, PH captured Malacca after winning 15-13 against Barisan Nasional.
Adly took over as chief minister, but following the Sheraton Move in March last year, the state government collapsed after four PH assemblymen walked out, with Sulaiman replacing Adly after winning the majority in the state assembly.
After the development today, Sulaiman has the support of 13 assemblymen (Umno 12, Bersatu 1), while 15 representatives are in the opposition (PH 11, the four who withdrew support). – October 4, 2021.
