Slight dip in Covid-19 ICU cases

THERE were 904 Covid-19 patients in intensive care units (ICU) at hospitals as of noon today, a slight improvement from yesterday’s 924 cases, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.

Of this, 850 patients were confirmed to have contracted Covid-19 while 54 were suspected or probable cases.

Meanwhile, 492 patients – 380 confirmed cases and 112 suspected cases – were on ventilator support.

The country reported 11,889 new cases today, of which 14 were imported.

Recoveries outnumbered the new cases as 15,891 people have recuperated from Covid-19.

This takes the cumulative total of recoveries to 2,070,715. The national caseload stood at 2,257,584 as at noon today.

A majority of today’s cases, or 11,710, were in the asymptomatic and mildly symptomatic categories while 179 were in more advanced stages of infection (categories three, four and five).

Noor Hisham also reported 14 new clusters today. There are currently 1,068 active clusters in the country. – October 1, 2021.
