THE government did not spend RM1.8 billion to prepare the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) report, said Mustapa Mohamed.

“The Economic Planning Unit (EPU) in the Prime Minister’s Department has never spent RM2 billion to prepare the 12MP book as alleged by opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim today,” said the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economic Affairs) in a statement today.

Anwar made the claim while debating the 12th plan in Parliament this morning.

He said that 12MP was planned by the EPU officers and all the input was derived from workshops and consultations.

“The cost for 12MP involves a very small sum for workshops, printing and media consultancy.

“I hope Anwar can correct his statement,” said the Jeli MP.

Earlier today, Anwar claimed that more than RM2 billion was spent by the government on foreign consultants to help prepare the 12KMP document, which was tabled by the government yesterday in the Dewan Rakyat.

He said the allocation should have instead been given to experts in the country to conduct the necessary studies, particularly those related to poverty, in preparing the document. – September 28, 2021.
