SELANGOR Menteri Besar Azmin Ali will meet with PKR and PAS to decide the future of the Islamist party’s three representatives who wish to remain in the state government.
Azmin’s decision follows the request of jailed PKR supremo Anwar Ibrahim today for the party to keep the door open to PAS despite the snub it has given PKR.
“I received a message from Anwar Ibrahim and I will discuss with the party the issue of PAS,” Azmin told reporters after launching PKR’s Wanita and Youth assemblies in Petaling Jaya tonight.
PAS decided to end all ties with PKR earlier this month but has stubbornly clung on to posts in the Selangor government which is led by PKR and DAP.
PAS number two Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said on Wednesday that its three representatives will remain in the Selangor executive council despite the end of relations between the two parties.
Azmin refused to say when the meeting will take place, saying he has to first confer with party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
In his speech earlier, Azmin, who is party deputy president, said PKR will not be held to ransom by any party in its attempts to build a unified opposition coalition.
“A crisis is not necessarily a problem but an opportunity for PKR to step forward as a peacemaker and leader. But at the same time, we will not allow anyone or any party to hold us to ransom.”
Azmin also hit out at political provocateurs whom he claimed were attempting to undermine the stability of the Selangor government.
Asked who these provocateurs were afterwards, Azmin declined to name names.
“I leave it to you to speculate,” Azmin told reporters. – May 19, 2017.
