Covid-19 deaths in Malaysia pass 25,000 mark

COVID-19 claimed the lives of 25,159 people in Malaysia between March 17 last year and yesterday.

The death toll crossed the 25,000 mark as of midnight after the Health Ministry reported 228 new Covid-19 fatalities.

According to data from the ministry’s Git.hub raw data repository, 36 were actual deaths that took place yesterday, with eight pronounced dead on arrival.

The ministry derives the daily figure from the sum total of the number of reported deaths on a given day, including backlog cases only just confirmed by the health authorities after completing their clinical investigations.

Selangor reported a slight increase in its daily death toll to 75 from 65 the previous day. Seven of the 75 fatalities were deaths that happened yesterday while one case was declared dead on arrival.

Other states and territories that reported new deaths were, Johor (56), Pahang (3), Perak (14), Kelantan (18), Penang (8), Sabah (19), Perak (6), Kuala Lumpur (3), Sarawak (9), Kedah (15), Malacca (4) and Terengganu (4).

No deaths were reported in, Negeri Sembilan, Perlis, Labuan and Putrajaya.

Besides the one death reported in Selangor, Johor had three, Kedah (5), Kelantan (6), Malacca (1), Pahang (1), Perak (6), Penang (1), Sabah (4), Terengganu (1) and Kuala Lumpur (1) were the other states that reported actual deaths yesterday.

The national average was 5.8 deaths per population of 100,000 with Penang having the highest with 14.7 deaths per population of 100,000.

The seven-day average for actual deaths was 89 cases.

Meanwhile, 13,899 new Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, which brought the cumulative total to 2,185,131.

According to the CovidNow website, there are currently 191,434 active cases in the country, with 161,889 patients or 84.6% under home quarantine, 18,589 (9.7%) at low-risk quarantine centres and 9,886 (5.2%) in hospitals.

Of those admitted in hospitals, 1,070 are in intensive care units (ICU), where 598 are on ventilator support. – September 26, 2021.
