ABOUT 16.49 million people or 70.5% of the adult population in Malaysia are now fully vaccinated as of yesterday, the Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply said.
This equates to 50.5% of the nation’s population.
The committee said 20.94 million people or 89.5% of the adult population and 64.1% of the general population have received at least one dose.
The committee said 320,452 doses of the Covid-19 vaccines were administered yesterday. Of this, 128,038 received their first of two doses while 192,414 completed their vaccination.
This brings the total number of doses administered under the national vaccination drive to 37.39 million.
Klang Valley led the vaccination tally with 98.4% of its adult population and 72% of the general population fully vaccinated.
Sabah is the only state to have a vaccination coverage of less than 50% of its adult population. About 47% of the state’s population and 33.2% of its general population are fully vaccinated.
Malaysia took delivery of the single-dose CanSino vaccine in August, which has since been administered to remote and rural areas.
Putrajaya has also started distributing the single-dose vaccine to six states with low vaccination coverage.
Prior to that, it was administering only the double-dose Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Sinovac vaccines.
Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said yesterday that vaccination for teenagers has already started in Sarawak with the Klang Valley and Labuan following suit soon.
