THE Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya will move to phase 2 of the national recovery plan on Friday, Federal Territories Minister Shahidan Kassim said today.
According to Shahidan, Labuan, already in phase 4, will reopen as a tourism bubble from September 16.
“On September 10, the Federal Territories will enter phase 2. Labuan will be the same as Langkawi,” he said in a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.
Previously the government has announced that Langkawi will reopen as a tourism bubble on September 16.
Shahidan also reminded the community, especially urban residents, to follow the standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the government.
On September 2, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that Malacca would move to phase 2 while Negri Sembilan will proceed into phase 3 of the recovery plan from September 4, which had been decided at the special committee for Covid-19 meeting.
Ismail also said that the committee has decided to reopen the domestic tourism sector with the travel bubble programme that will begin in Langkawi.
“I would like to inform that the committee has decided to open the tourism sector at a few destinations with conditions as part of the travel bubble programme.
“For a start, Langkawi has been chosen for the pilot run, which will be open to domestic tourists from September 16.”
Ismail also announced today that Selangor, too, will be moving to phase 2 from September 10.
With this, states still in phase 1 are Kedah and Johor.
Pahang, Terengganu, Malacca, Perak, Penang and Sabah are already in phase 2.
Perlis, Negri Sembilan and Sarawak are in phase 3 while Labuan has moved into phase 4, the final phase under the national recovery plan.
Under phase 2, inter-district movement is allowed for those who are fully vaccinated. They are also permitted to bring along children 17 years of age and below in compliance with SOP. – September 8, 2021.
