Anglers trapped in Dengkil flooded area rescued

TEN individuals who were trapped because of a flood situation while on a fishing trip in Dengkil yesterday were rescued by a fire and rescue team. They were at a mining area in an oil palm plantation.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Hafisham Mohd Noor said an emergency call was received at 7.28pm yesterday and a rescue operation was immediately mounted. The victims were rescued by 10.30pm.

According to him, all the victims are locals and included an 11-year-old.

They were unaware that the water level had risen to as high as three metres in the vicinity following heavy rain, causing them to be trapped.

“They panicked when they wanted to leave the area. They then made an emergency call (to the Fire and Rescue Department) for help,” he told Bernama today,

The victims were not from Dengkil, with some coming from Cyberjaya.

Hafisham said rescuers managed to bring all the trapped victims out and brought them to a control post before handing them over to the police. – Bernama, August 30, 2021.
