36 new clusters, 23 linked to workplaces

The Health Ministry has detected a total of 36 new Covid-19 clusters, the most of which are workplace clusters which were traced back to factories. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, August 28, 2021.

THE Health Ministry (MOH) has reported 36 new Covid-19 clusters today, the bulk of which – 23 clusters – were found in workplaces. 
 
Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the 23 workplace clusters contributed 1002 infections, most of which were traced back to factories.
 
Apart from that, there were 12 community clusters that contributed 391 cases, and one high-risk group cluster that contributed 57 cases.
 
The largest workplace cluster is the Industri Sri Lalang factory cluster in Kluang, Johor, which reported 262 cases.
 
Most of the community clusters were linked to a symptomatic index case, who had been identified as a close contact of a Covid-19 positive patient.

The biggest community cluster is in Kg Simpok, Serian, Sarawak, which reported 102 cases. 

Two community clusters were traced to social visits, which are the Kampung Pangkal Kala (nine cases) and Taman Harmoni Kampung Tong (28 cases) clusters located in Pasir Mas, Kelantan.
 
One social cluster was linked to a wedding that was traced to Kg Lima in Nabawan, Sabah, which logged 62 cases. 
  
The high-risk cluster was detected from an old folks’ home in Jalan Denai Satu Kempas, Johor Bahru, Johor, which reported 57 cases. 
 
There are currently 1,468 active clusters in the country according to MOH. – August 28, 2021.
