Active caseload hits 268,548

MALAYSIA’S Covid-19 active caseload has reached a new peak at 268,548 infections, following the addition of 22,597 new infections logged earlier today.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that of the active cases, 986 cases are critically ill patients who are currently being treated at intensive care unit (ICU) wards, while 451 patients are on respiratory support.

Meanwhile, there is a slight dip in the number of Covid-19 fatalities today with 252 deaths, as compared to 339 deaths yesterday.

The fresh fatalities have raised the country’s death toll to 15,802.

Of today’s deaths, 32 were dead-on-arrival cases while the others had pre-existing health problems.

Selangor reported the highest number of deaths at 91, followed by Johor (46), Kuala Lumpur (26), Kedah (18) and Sabah and Penang (17 each).

Malacca reported 13 deaths; Perak, seven; Pahang, six; Sarawak, five; Negri Sembilan, three; Kelantan, two; and Perlis, one.

Meanwhile, 19,492 recoveries were reported today, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,401,160. – August 28, 2021.
