Malaysia reports 22,597 new Covid-19 cases

Malaysia has logged 22,597 new Covid-19 cases today, increasing the total number of cases nationwide to 1,658,510 since the start of the pandemic. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, August 28, 2021.

MALAYSIA has reported 22,597 new Covid-19 infections in the past 24 hours, with eight states and one federal territory logging over a thousand cases.
 
Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the fresh cases have raised the national caseload to 1,685,510.
 
The eight states that have recorded more than a thousand infections are Selangor (5,814 cases), Sabah (2,834 cases), Johor (1,896 cases), Sarawak (2,427 cases), Kedah (2,162 cases), Penang (1,920 cases), Kelantan (1,289 cases) and Perak (1,061 cases).
 
Meanwhile, federal territory Kuala Lumpur recorded 1,111 new cases today.

Other states and federal territories which reported new cases today are Negri Sembilan (345 cases), Malacca (269 cases), Pahang (579 cases), Terengganu (739 cases), Perlis (98 cases), Putrajaya (48 cases) and Labuan (five cases).
 
A total of 343,900 doses of Covid-19 vaccines were administered under the national vaccination drive yesterday.
 
To date, 61.1% (14.3 million) of the adult population in the country have completed their vaccination, whereas 81.5% (19.1 million) of the adult population have received their first dose of the vaccine.

Meanwhile, Labuan has the highest vaccination rate in the country – with 63,750 people or 93.1% of the adult population in the federal territory fully inoculated. – August 28, 2021.
