Religious teacher claims trial to hurting disabled man


A TEACHER at a madrasah (religious school) pleaded not guilty in the Ayer Keroh Sessions Court in Malacca today to a charge of voluntarily causing grievous hurt on a man with disabilities.

Mohamad Haslam Abdul Salam, 32, made the plea before judge Nariman Badruddin.

He was charged with committing the offence on Muhammad Sawfi Razali, 21, by hitting the victim with a broom on August 22 in Taman Gadong Bahagia.

Haslam was allowed bail of RM5,000 with one surety and ordered to not intimidate the victim.

The court set September 27 for mention.

Deputy public prosecutor N. Sivasangari prosecuted, while the accused was represented by lawyer Sheikh Ikhzan Sheikh Salleh. – Bernama, August 27, 2021.
