ACTIVIST Nathaniel Tan, who is on an indefinite hunger strike to demand changes for the people, has been told by police to adhere to the movement-control order standard operating procedures (SOP).
Tan told The Malaysian Insight that they queried about his hunger strike but did not ask him to leave the spot from where he is holding the strike.
Tan, who started his hunger strike yesterday afternoon and consuming only liquid, is camping out on the walkway of a row of shops in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur.
He said policemen came to question him earlier today.
“They also wanted to know the purpose of my hunger strike,” he said, adding that about 10 policemen visited him.
“They said they will keep an eye on me, and that I can remain here.
“They also told me to adhere to the SOP,” said Tan, who was wearing a mask and face shield.
Earlier, the 40-year-old told The Malaysian Insight that he is tired of the unceasing political circus in the country and has set five demands for the government to fulfil before he breaks his strike.
The demands are:
1. To allow public policy experts to advise the government on handling Covid-19;
2. To allocate RM500 million to support hospitals in handling the pandemic;
3. No muzzling of front-liners from reporting the real situation;
4. To allow employees who can work from home to skip going to the office; and
5. Free supply of N95 masks and sanitisers to hospitals and police stations. – August 5, 2021.
