MALAYSIA administered 417,738 doses of vaccine under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme yesterday, said Health Minister Dr Adham Baba.
The latest daily vaccination number fell short for the second day in a row from the all-time high of 507,050 doses administered on Thursday.
Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had said the programme aimed to boost the capacity for vaccinations to 500,000 doses per day.
The fast-track approach in the programme is to tackle the emergence of new and more vicious variants of the virus.
Nonetheless, the figure remained consistently above the 400,000 mark that was reached almost daily since July 12 excluding 299,593 on Tuesday, 380,440 on July 17 and 344,961 on July 18.
“A total of 284,672 individuals were given their first dose, while the remaining 133,066 completed their second dose yesterday,” Adham tweeted, citing data from the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force.
More than 16.9 million Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered to date, with 11.5 million people or 35.2% of the population receiving at least the first dose.
Cumulatively, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya have the highest number of first doses administered at 4,711,715, followed by Sarawak (1,644,583), Johor (845,126) and Perak (653,851).
For second doses, a total of 5.4 million recipients or 16.5% of the nation’s population have been fully vaccinated.
Of this, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya combined topped the charts with 1,597,181, followed by Sarawak (1,118,715), Johor (396,741) and Sabah (378,840).
As for the highest vaccination rate, Labuan continues to lead with 61.3% of its population receiving one dose and 51% completing their two-dose schedule.
Putrajaya is looking to vaccinate all senior citizens in the Klang Valley with at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine in the next few weeks.
Additionally, Muhyiddin had said that the government is aiming for 100% of the adult population in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur to be given at least one dose of the vaccine by August 1, while
Sarawak is expected to hit this target by the end of August.
He said all adults in Malaysia will be vaccinated by October, a new immunisation target set by the government to stem the recent surge in Covid-19 cases. – July 25, 2021.
