THE rural district of Telang Usan in Sarawak has moved out of the Covid-19 red zone to orange but two other rural districts, Betong and Pakan, moved in the opposite direction after recording 42 and 46 cases respectively in the last 14 days.

Betong was nudged back to the red by the 37 cases, including the two reported today, from the Lempaong cluster that was declared by the state Health Department on July 16.

The community cluster involves two longhouses in Lempaong Spak.

The 23 new cases detected within the community in Pakan in the last 24 hours compounded the district’s position.

With Betong and Pakan back in the red, Sarawak now has 18 districts in that zone with Kuching district firmly entrenched in it after recording another three-digit new cases today.

The state disaster management committee stated Kuching had 119 new cases today with authorities continuing to detect more positive cases from the district’s Sungai Bedil Besar and Sentosa2 clusters.

The highly contagious Delta variant of the Covid-19 has been detected in the Sentosa2 cluster that broke out among health workers and patient at Hospital Sentosa in the Kota Sentosa bazaar.

The situation is also improving for the Lubok Antu district, moving from the orange to the yellow zone after only recording two cases in as many weeks.

However,  the district of Tanjung Manis lost its green zone status, moving back to the yellow zone after recording seven new cases in the last 14 days.

Of the state’s 40 districts, 18 are in the red, seven in the orange, 12 yellow and three green, namely, Limbang, Lawas and Daro.

Sarawak reported 261 new cases and two deaths today involving a 90-year-old man in Miri and a 75-year-old man in Kuching. Both have a history of medical complications. – July 24, 2021.
