SYED Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has arrived at Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court to face charges of criminal breach of trust involving the misappropriation of RM1 million in Bersatu funds.

The former youth and sports minister arrived at 9am with his legal team, including Gobind Singh Deo and Ambiga Sreenevasan.

Several opposition politicians were also present to give their support to the Muar MP.

Yesterday a source from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission said the former minister was expected to be charged under Sections 403 and 405 of the Penal Code for misappropriation of funds and criminal breach of trust.

“The individual is believed to have misappropriated party funds while he was its youth chief, which was estimated to be RM1.12 million,” the source said to The Malaysian Insight.

Investigations into Syed Saddiq started in June 2020, following a police report he made over the loss of RM250,000 that had disappeared from his parents’ home in Petaling Jaya.

He had previously said the missing cash belonged to him and his parents.

Late last night, Syed Saddiq posted a tweet and video in which he said the charges against him were politically motivated.

He added that he would fight to clear his name and that “truth will always prevail”. – July 22, 2021.
