PEJUANG will attend the coming special parliamentary meeting but will give the sittings pass if it is turns out to be nothing more than a briefing session, party chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad said.

The Langkawi MP said he felt the five-day meeting was merely a “gathering” to brief lawmakers on the actions taken by Putrajaya in the fight against Covid-19.

“First they wanted to confirm the emergency but why do they want to do it now. Rightly it should have been endorsed by the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara before it was introduced.

“Now we are required to accept the emergency as if it was endorsed earlier. This is legally wrong,” he said during an online press conference today.

Pejuang currently has four Members of Parliament.

Apart from Dr Mahathir, the others are Mukhriz Mahathir (Jerlun), Amiruddin Hamzah (Kubang Pasu) and Shahruddin Md Salleh (Sri Gading).

Dr Mahathir had earlier hinted that the party’s lawkers may boycott the five-day meeting, which begins on July 26.

He said the special parliamentary meeting was to hoodwink the public and show that Putrajaya had obeyed the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Malay rulers’ decree to convene Parliament.

“The government is not sincere. They know it is not a meeting of the Dewan Rakyat but want to show it is a meeting as decreed by the king,” he said. – July 21, 2021.
