A RECORD number of 138 Covid-19 deaths reported in the past 24 hours, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.
The previous record was 135 deaths, reported on July 8.
Cumulatively, there have been 6,866 fatalities in Malaysia since the pandemic began.
In total, there are 119,814 active cases, Noor Hisham said, with 908 patients in intensive care with 425 requiring respiratory support.
Of the 138 deaths reported today, there were 89 men and 49 women.
The highest number of deaths was reported in Selangor (46), followed by Negri Sembilan (20), and Kuala Lumpur and Johor (16).
Noor Hisham added that 18 people were declared dead on arrival at hospital. Six cases were reported in Selangor, two each from Kuala Lumpur and Johor, one each in Malacca, Perak and Terengganu, and five in Pahang. β July 17, 2021.
