SARAWAK reported another three-digit increase in new Covid-19 cases today to push its infectivity rate from 1.0 two days ago, to 2.0 today.
Data from the state health department, released by the Sarawak disaster management committee, showed the infectivity rate per 100,000 today is 2,052.29.
The Health Ministry on Thursday reported Sarawak was one of two states whose infectivity rate – also known as Rt – was above the national average of 0.97.
Negri Sembilan then had the highest Rt of 1.05.
Sarawak reported 491 new cases today and five deaths.
The committee said 64% of the cases were from five districts – Kuching (106), Sibu (79), Bintulu (50), Miri (47) and Subis (34) – with 408 of the cases from people who have been ordered into quarantine after coming into contact with a positive case.
Of the 106 cases in Kuching district, 104 were local transmissions while the other two are imported.
The two active clusters in the Kuching district reported another four new cases – the Kilometer 23 Jalan Puncak Borneo cluster with three cases and the Muara Tabuan with one.
Three of the deaths reported are at the Sibu hospital with one at the Sarawak general hospital in Kuching.
The victims, four of them males, were aged between 57 and 85. – June 26, 2021.
