THE daily death toll was once again in the triple digits today, after 109 people succumbed to Covid-19.
Today’s figures is also the second-highest since the onset of the pandemic, after a record high of 126 fatalities was reported on June 2.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the latest Covid-19 fatalities raised the death toll to 3,291.
Meanwhile, the country continues to record high numbers of intensive care unit (ICU) admissions, with 886 people under critical care.
A total of 446 patients are placed under respiratory support.
Active cases, in the country, grew to 85,607 as 7,452 new cases were reported against 6,105 recoveries in the past 24 hours.
With this, the number of recoveries now stood at 521, 676.
There were nine dead on arrival cases today.
The oldest person to succumb to the coronavirus was a 98-year-old woman who died at the Raja Permaisuri Bainon Hospital in Ipoh, Perak. She had a history of high blood pressure and dyslipidemia.
Meanwhile, the youngest person on the list was a 27-year-old man who died at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital. The deceased also suffered from diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity.
Selangor reported the highest number of fatalities with 33 cases, followed by Johor with 22 cases.
Negri Sembilan reported nine cases while Kuala Lumpur reported 12 cases.
Kelantan reported six cases while Kedah and Malacca saw five deaths each.
Perak reported four deaths while Labuan reported three.
Meanwhile, Sabah, Sarawak, Penang and Pahang reported two fatalities each while Terengganu and Putrajaya reported one case each. – June 5, 2021.
