THE Pantai Kemayang cluster in Kelantan, one of 22 new Covid-19 clusters reported in the country today, came about after a year-old child tested positive for the coronavirus.
Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Pantai Kemayang is a workplace cluster and the child went on to infect 22 people.
“The cluster involves workers in a factory in Persisiran Pantai Kemayang, Kampung Kemayang, Bachok,” he said in a statement today.
“The index case is case no. 555796, who is a year- old Malaysian boy who tested positive for Covid-19 on May 29 in a screening exercise for symptomatic individuals, which was held on May 24.”
There were 10 other workplace clusters on the list today, most of them factories:
1. Jalan Waja Lima Belas in Kuala Langat and Petaling, Selangor (23 cases);
2. Jalan Batam in Kepong and Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur (11);
3. Jalan Jee Cattleya in Miri, Sarawak (23);
4. Jalan Pinang Riam in Miri, Sarawak (15);
5. Jalan SILC Satu in Johor Baru and Pontian (15);
6. Teknologi Enam in Tangkak, Johor (15);
7. Jalan Bioteknologi Satu in Johor Baru, Johor (24);
8. Industri Jemapoh in Kuala Pilah and Jempol, Negri Sembilan (50);
9. Jalan Tambun in Kinta and Hulu Perak in Perak (20); and
10. Industri Bukit Panchor in Seberang Perai Utama, Seberang Perai Tengah, Seberang Perai Selatan, and Timur Laut, Penang (94).
Apart from the workplace clusters, health authorities also reported seven new community clusters. They are:
1. Jalan Parit Raja Tengah in Muar, Johor (27 cases);
2. Nanga Meruan in Selangau, Sibu, and Kanowit, Sabah (34);
3. Sungai Penyarai in Tatau, Sarawak (27);
4. Kelisa Emas in Seberang Perai Tengah and Barat Daya in Penang (20);
5. Taman Fasa 2A in Perak and Kuala Lumpur (33);
6. Dah Kampung Lancuk Kota Setar, Kuala Muda, and Sik (57); and
7. Kampung Alai in Hulu Perak (18).
Taman Fasa 2A, Kelisa Emas, Kampung Alai and Dah Kampung Lancuk originated from visits during the festive season.
Also on the list are two education clusters, one detention centre cluster and one linked to religious activities.
Noor Hisham said there are currently 674 active clusters in the country. – June 2, 2021.
