MALAYSIA saw a slight increase in new Covid-19 cases today, reporting 7,703 cases in the past 24 hours.
This comes after the country reported 7,105 cases yesterday.
Director-general of Health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the fresh cases has raised the national cumulative caseload to 587,165.
Selangor recorded 2,728 cases, once again the highest number by state. This was followed by Kuala Lumpur with 701 cases.
As for other states, there were 541 cases in Kelantan, 588 in Sarawak, 254 in Sabah, 554 in Johor, 407 in Penang, 586 in Negri Sembilan, 224 in Perak, 283 in Kedah, 209 in Malacca, 237 in Pahang and 224 in Terengganu.
Putrajaya and Perlis saw the least number of cases with one and seven cases respectively.
The government hopes to bring down the number of new cases by ramping up its national vaccination programme.
According to the government, Malaysia is set to receive 16 million doses of vaccines by July. This includes 2.2 million doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, 12 million doses of the Sinovac and 1.2 million doses of AstraZeneca jabs.
As of June 1, a total of 3.1 million people have received their first dose. Of this, 1.1 million have received both doses.
As for registrations, 12.41 million people have signed up for vaccination by midday yesterday. β June 2, 2021.
