THERE were 846 patients in intensive care today, as the number of people being treated for Covid-19 inched towards the 80,000 mark.
Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a joint press conference with Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob today that there were 78,017 active cases reported in the 24 hours to 12pm.
There were 79 deaths from the virus today, raising the cumulative toll to 2,729.
Meanwhile, 419 of the 846 people in intensive care require respiratory support.
Selangor and Negri Sembilan reported 15 deaths each, followed by Kedah with 13 cases.
Other states reporting deaths included Johor (12), Sabah (two), Terengganu (four), Malacca (four), Kuala Lumpur (three), Penang (five) and Sarawak (three).
Labuan, Perak and Pahang reported one death each.
Noor Hisham said 5,121 people had recovered from the coronavirus, making 565,533 cumulative recoveries to date. β May 30, 2021.
