PRASARANA chairman Tajuddin Abdul Rahman confirmed that police have called him for questioning for not wearing a face mask at a press conference yesterday.
Tajuddin had worn a face shield instead of a face mask while speaking with the media about the Monday night LRT train crash in Kuala Lumpur.
“I am sorry if the face shield was not good enough. The shield is not an ordinary shield. (It was) specially ordered from a reliable source,” he told Free Malaysia Today.
The Pasir Salak lawmaker had gone on a walkabout at the site of the LRT collision in KLCC yesterday morning. On Monday, more than more than 200 people were injured when two trains collided in the Kelana Jaya LRT line.
He said he had worn a mask during the walkabout but decided not to during the press conference as it was easier to speak without it.
“… how do you talk during a press conference with a face mask? So, I thought a (transparent) shield would be better,” he said.
On August 1 last year, the National Security Council had also made it compulsory for masks to be worn in public areas.
Dang Wangi police chief Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said earlier today that Tajuddin was under investigation for violating the Covid-19 standard operating procedure.
He said the case was filed under section 21A of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 and rule 17 (1) the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2021.
Zainal said other attendees at the event will also be called in for questioning. – May 26, 2021.
