MALAYSIA smashed all of its previous grim records of daily Covid-19 cases today after reporting 7,289 new infections in the past 24 hours.
Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the fresh cases have taken the national caseload to 525,889.
This is also the first time the daily tally had passed the 7,000 mark.
Selangor led the tally with 2,642 cases, followed by Johor and Kuala Lumpur with 664 and 604 cases respectively.
Noor Hisham had previously warned that the daily cases could go up to 7,000 by the end of May or early June if people fail to comply with the prescribed standard operating procedure.
However, today’s figures have surpassed the projection made on May 8.
As for other states, there were 266 cases in Sabah, Sarawak (513), Penang (380), Negri Sembilan (410), Kelantan (425), Perak (218), Kedah (336), Malacca (258), Pahang (211), Terengganu (268), Labuan (63) and Putrajaya (23).
Perlis reported the fewest number of infections with only eight cases. – May 25, 2021.
