SIX passengers in the head-on collision between two LRT trains yesterday are in critical condition, said Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa.

He said on Twitter that three of the six injured have been intubated.

Fifteen others are in a semi-critical state and 43 more suffered light injuries, Annuar said.

The minister said 64 passengers were rushed to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital emergency unit yesterday night.

As for the other passengers, Annuar said that 15 victims are in semi-critical and the remaining 43 are in non-critical condition.

Annuar urged the public not to jump to conclusions in regard to the cause of the crash.

He said this was so that police and Prasarana investigators could work on the case without interference.

“Prasarana is making all efforts to ensure LRT services resume,” he tweeted.

Yesterday, two LRT trains collided on the underground stretch of the line between the KLCC and Kg Baru stations, resulting in scores of passengers being injured.

Dang Wangi police chief Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said more than 200 people were hurt, 47 of them severely, in the crash.

Those with light injuries were sent to several nearby hospitals for treatment.

One of the trains in the 8.45pm accident was carrying passengers while the other had only a driver  out on a test run.

The trains are running again today on the Kelana Jaya LRT line but on one track only and supported by a free shuttle bus service. – May 25, 2021.
