MORE than 400 of Sarawak’s 533 new Covid-19 cases today are people who are already isolated from the community and in quarantine, the state disaster management committee said.
In its daily update, the committee said the new infections were quarantined as close contacts of already infected people.
Breaking down the numbers further, the committee said 380 people were not symptomatic.
Fifty-nine cases stem from active clusters, 56 tested positive when screened at health clinics or hospitals, while 38 had sought treatment for symptoms associated with the infection.
The disaster committee stated that of the 533 new cases, 324 or 60.8% are from five districts: Miri (109 cases), Kapit (69), Sibu (58), Bintulu (46) and Kuching (42).
There was one death in Sarawak over the past 24 hours, a 60-year-old woman with a history of diabetes and hypertension, who died at Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching yesterday.
While the state Health Department announced the end of one cluster – Jalan Sultan Iskandar in Bintulu – it announced another new grouping stemming from a longhouse at Sungai Rayah in Meradong, resulting in 13 reported cases so far.
As of today, the state has 83 active clusters, of which 12 swelled in size with 65 new cases reported in the past 24 hours. – May 14, 2021.
